Union Minister Confirms India’s 2036 Olympic Hosting at Isha Gramotsavam

Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced that India will host the 2036 Olympic Games, describing it as a landmark moment for Indian sport. He made the statement at the 17th Isha Gramotsavam’s grand finale at the Isha Yoga Centre. Mandaviya emphasised the importance of nurturing talent from villages, saying, “Cities may polish talents, but legends are born in the soil of villages. Hosting the Olympics in India will allow us to showcase our technology and sports facilities to the world.”

The minister emphasised engagement with Isha Outreach to find sporting talent in rural areas. He added, “People like Sadhguru are crucial in guiding the government to discover potential from villages.” The 17th Isha Gramotsavam drew over 63,000 people, including more than 12,000 women, from 35,000 villages in six states and one Union Territory.

The finals included men’s volleyball, women’s throwball, and para volleyball competitions. Uthamasolapuram village won men’s volleyball, Badgannauru won women’s throwball, and Kanyakumari district took the para volleyball title. 

Olympic medallist Saina Nehwal, para table tennis champion Bhavina Patel, and chess grandmaster Vaishali Rameshbabu attended the event and participated in prize distribution.
