Abu Dhabi Accelerates E-Mobility Drive with First Battery-Swap Facility
Abu Dhabi has launched its first battery-swapping station for electric motorbikes, a joint initiative by ADNOC Distribution and Terra Tech Ltd. The project is a significant step towards promoting the emirate’s clean mobility and sustainability goals.
The new facility, which is located at one of ADNOC’s premier service stations, enables riders to swap depleted batteries with fully charged ones in seconds. This quick-swap technology reduces downtime while also supporting the capital’s expanding fleet of electric delivery bikes.
The project seeks to increase electric vehicle usage, particularly in Abu Dhabi’s expanding last-mile delivery industry. It improves delivery businesses’ efficiency by removing long charging times and providing rapid power access.
Terra Tech founder Husam Zammar said expanding into Abu Dhabi reinforces the company’s objective to build future-ready electric mobility networks across the UAE. ADNOC Distribution, the strategic partner, is leveraging its large service network to integrate sustainable transportation technologies.
The move is consistent with the UAE’s larger environmental goals, such as the Net Zero by 2050 strategy and Abu Dhabi Mobility’s goal of having 50% electric vehicles by 2040. ADNOC and Terra Tech intend to expand battery-swapping infrastructure throughout the emirate, supporting cleaner, smarter, and faster urban transit solutions.
