UNICEF, TIKA team up for youth-led climate resilience in Cameroon
UNICEF and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen collaboration in Cameroon in support of child rights, youth engagement, and responses to humanitarian and climate-related emergencies.
The two-year partnership will combine the expertise, networks, and resources of both organizations to reach vulnerable children and young people, especially in regions affected by conflict, displacement,t and climate shocks. A key focus is expanding UNICEF’s U-Report and U-Responders initiative, which mobilizes youth as community leaders and agents of change.
Under the agreement, the partners will train young responders in disaster management, child rights, and first aid, including CPR and injury care. They will also provide equipment for environmental protection, such as tools, protective gear, and first-aid kits, while promoting collaboration with Turkish companies and the diaspora to support awareness campaigns and local initiatives. The partnership further seeks to integrate child rights into corporate and institutional policies through training modules.
“This partnership reflects our commitment to placing children and young people at the center of solutions,” said Nadine Perrault, UNICEF Representative in Cameroon. TIKA Programme Coordinator Melih Cagatay Artunay said the agreement would strengthen Turkish cooperation by supporting action and development for Cameroon’s youth.
