Elon Musk’s Starlink Brings Satellite Internet to India, Offering Affordable Rural Connectivity
Elon Musk’s satellite internet service, Starlink, is expected to begin operating in India within the next two months after its licence was recently approved, according to industry sources. The company has completed its pricing plan for Indian consumers, establishing the cost of the essential satellite dish equipment at approximately ₹33,000. Monthly unlimited data plans are estimated to be priced around ₹3,000.
To attract clients, Starlink will offer a one-month complimentary trial with every gadget purchase, allowing users to test the service before committing to monthly payments. The satellite service intends to overcome connectivity gaps in India’s distant and underdeveloped areas, where traditional broadband infrastructure has suffered deployment and maintenance issues.
Starlink’s low Earth orbit satellite network is intended to bring high-speed internet connectivity to locations where traditional providers have failed to expand their services. The pricing aligns with Starlink’s strategy in adjacent countries, like Bangladesh and Bhutan, where the satellite equipment costs ₹33,000.
Experts expect that Starlink’s debut will increase competition in India’s telecommunications sector while also providing critical access to rural areas, educational institutions, and companies.
