Indonesia Pioneers Contactless Immigration for International Arrivals
Indonesia has opened the world’s first seamless immigration corridor powered by artificial intelligence, allowing passengers to pass through immigration without stopping. This technology is part of the government’s “All Indonesia” initiative, which aims to reduce wait times and simplify arrival procedures for international travellers. The system is being deployed in Jakarta’s airport, with an additional corridor planned for Surabaya, representing a significant shift in how passengers enter the country.
Senior citizens and those with disabilities will have priority access during the initial phase. Prior to arrival, travellers must pre-register using the All Indonesia app. Once registered, passengers give their passport information in advance, allowing authorities to conduct background checks before landing. When passengers approach the airport, their final authentication is completed automatically via biometric scanning as they walk through the corridor, eliminating the need for paperwork, physical queues, or manual checks.
Amadeus, the technology provider behind the AI solution, claims that the groundbreaking innovation integrates digital identity verification and biometric recognition across many airport touchpoints, resulting in a secure and frictionless experience. Indonesia has already tested similar corridors for pilgrims heading to Saudi Arabia, successfully processing thousands of passengers and demonstrating the efficiency of this automated system.
