Ayush Shetty won his first BWF World Tour title, defeating Canada’s Brian Yang 21-18, 21-13 in the US Open final at Council Bluffs, Iowa. The 20-year-old Indian, ranked World No. 34, became the first Indian shuttler to win a trophy this season, breaking India’s drought for an international men’s singles title since Lakshya Sen’s victory at the Canada Open in 2023.

Ayush, who won bronze at the World Junior Championships in 2023, had a strong week ending in his win over World No. 33 Yang. He began his campaign by defeating Danish World No. 85 Magnus Johannesen 21-17, 21-19, before defeating compatriot Tharun Mannepalli in three games. In the quarterfinals, Ayush defeated World No. 70 Kuo Kuan Lin before meeting World No. 6 Chou Tien Chen in the semifinals. Despite losing the first game, he rallied and defeated the top-seeded player from Chinese Taipei in a three-game series.

Meanwhile, 16-year-old Tanvi Sharma reached her first BWF World Tour final, but fell to top seed Beiwen Zhang of the United States 21-11, 16-21, 21-10. Tanvi, ranked World No. 66, became the youngest Indian to reach a World Tour final, defeating second seed Nguyen Thuy Linh and former junior world champion Pitchamon Opatniputh in the campaign.
