Europe Steps Up Zero-Emission Mobility Push With 70 New Clean Transport Projects

The European Union has allocated more than €600 million to 70 new projects aimed at accelerating the transition to zero-emission mobility across the trans-European transport network. These efforts involve 24 EU nations and are aimed at establishing large-scale alternative fuel infrastructure in road, maritime, inland waterway, and air transport systems. The funds will be used to install electric charging stations, hydrogen refuelling stations, electricity supply systems, and bunkering facilities for ammonia and methanol.

A major part of the investment will go towards electrifying Europe’s transport routes. More than 1,000 electric recharge stations for light-duty cars with a capacity of 150 kW will be installed. An additional 2,000 recharging points designed for heavy-duty trucks will provide 350 kW of capacity, while 586 high-power stations with 1 MW output will further enhance the continent’s charging network. Sixteen airports will also electrify ground handling operations, reducing fuel and minimising aviation emissions.

The hydrogen industry will gain momentum with 38 new refuelling stations for automobiles, buses, and trucks. Meanwhile, 24 maritime ports will adopt greener technologies like onshore power supply, port service electrification, and ammonia bunkering to promote cleaner shipping.
