India–Japan Ties Poised for Stronger Cooperation Under New Leadership
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulates Sanae Takaichi on becoming Japan’s first female Prime Minister, expressing hope for more bilateral collaboration. He emphasised the importance of India-Japan relations, claiming that their growing partnership helps significantly to peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.
In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi expressed his best wishes and reaffirmed India’s commitment to building the Special Strategic and Global Partnership with Japan. Sanae Takaichi, the 64-year-old head of the Liberal Democratic Party, was chosen by Parliament with 237 votes in the Lower House, defeating Yoshihiko Noda of the Constitutional Democratic Party, who received 149.
Takaichi’s first post-victory address emphasised her aim for rebuilding Japan through hard work and unity, calling citizens and lawmakers to work together. She promised to devote herself totally to national development and encouraged others to do the same with humility and effort.
Takaichi will face key challenges once she takes office, including economic revitalisation, rebuilding trust in governance, and ensuring political stability. Her recent agreement with Osaka Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura of the Japan Innovation Party demonstrates her intent to forge broader alliances and lead Japan into a new era of reform and resilience.
