Make in India Drives Railway Export Success, Highlights Vaishnaw
Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday highlighted India’s growing prominence in global railway exports during his visit to Alstom’s Savli facility in Gujarat. The plant has grown into a major manufacturing base, supplying metro coaches, bogies, and propulsion systems to over a dozen countries.
Vaishnaw emphasised that the rail industry’s export capabilities are a direct result of the government’s “Make in India” and “Make for the World” initiatives.
Since 2016, India has exported over 1,000 rail cars, including 450 metro coaches produced at Savli for Australia’s Queensland Metro. The same unit has dispatched over 3,800 bogies to Germany, Egypt, and Brazil, as well as over 4,000 flatpacks to Austria. The Maneja unit has sold over 5,000 propulsion units worldwide.
India is actively executing 27 internationally signalling projects and assisting 40 others, utilising cutting-edge technology, including AI, IoT, blockchain, and cybersecurity. Exports include locomotives and coaches to Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America. A strong network of local suppliers, including Hitachi Energy, ABB, and Hind Rectifier, is helping to sustain this pace.
Vaishnaw stated that Indian engineers are now producing world-class products, highlighting India’s expanding leadership in the global rail sector.
