Namibia Confers Top Civilian Award on PM Modi as Bilateral Ties Deepen

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with Namibia’s highest civilian honour, the Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis, during his one-day state visit to the African nation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with Namibia’s highest civilian honour, the Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis, during his one-day state visit to the African nation. The award was presented by Namibian President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah at a special ceremony, marking a new milestone in India-Namibia ties.

PM Modi accepted the prize with deep gratitude, dedicating it to India’s 1.4 billion people and to the historic partnership with Namibia.

“This honour is a tribute to the people of India and the timeless bond that our two countries share,” the Prime Minister said, thanking President Nandi-Ndaitwah and the Namibian people. PM Modi is the first Indian leader to receive this award, which was created in 1995 to reward outstanding service and leadership.

The prize is named after the Welwitschia Mirabilis, a remarkable desert plant that represents endurance and longevity.

This is PM Modi’s 27th international honour, the fourth during his current five-nation tour and the second in less than 24 hours. During his visit, Prime Minister Modi discussed ways to increase collaboration in digital technology, defence, agriculture, healthcare, education, and vital minerals. Both countries inked four agreements, and PM Modi paid respect at the Heroes’ Acre Memorial.
