The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, celebrated World Tourism Day on September 27, 2025, with the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.” The event at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and academics to discuss how tourism might be aligned with sustainable growth. The celebration highlighted India’s commitment to preserving its cultural and natural wealth while promoting responsible travel in destinations such as Jaipur, Varanasi, and Goa.

The Ministry emphasised that tourism is not only a source of economic activity, but also a tool for preserving heritage and the environment. Strategic initiatives like Swadesh Darshan 2.0 and PRASHAD were highlighted for their emphasis on environmentally sustainable infrastructure and improved visitor experiences while preserving cultural authenticity. Improved connectivity through the UDAN program was emphasised as vital to unlocking potential in lesser-known regions.

Collaborations with online platforms and agencies, including Netflix, aim to highlight India’s hidden jewels through cinematic narrative, reducing strain on famous places. The implementation of a Project Management Information System ensures real-time monitoring of infrastructure projects, while innovations like AR and VR promise immersive visitor experiences.

Additionally, community-focused initiatives, like MUDRA loan access for homestay owners, aim to stimulate local entrepreneurship.
