Türkiye and Kazakhstan Expand Defence Partnerships, Eye $15 Billion in Trade

Türkiye and Kazakhstan

Türkiye and Kazakhstan are seeking to strengthen defence cooperation and increase bilateral trade to $15 billion as both countries deepen their strategic partnership.

The expansion of ties was discussed during recent high-level engagements between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Defence cooperation has emerged as a key area of bilateral engagement, with both countries exploring opportunities for joint production and technology sharing.

Türkiye’s defence industry has increasingly focused on partnerships with allied countries through local manufacturing, technology transfers and long-term cooperation. Kazakhstan has emerged as an important partner in this effort, with Turkish companies contributing to its defence requirements.

Cooperation extends beyond equipment sales to include maintenance, repair and the development of local industrial capabilities. Turkish defence firms have also been working to strengthen their presence in Central Asia through joint initiatives.

The two countries are also seeking to expand economic ties across sectors, including transport, logistics, energy, agriculture and artificial intelligence. Their target of increasing bilateral trade to $15 billion reflects efforts to build a broader economic partnership.

The countries reaffirmed their commitment to closer cooperation earlier this year, signing a declaration on eternal friendship and enhanced strategic partnership in May. They also agreed to implement a series of measures aimed at strengthening commercial relations and investment.

Defence and economic cooperation are expected to remain central to their engagement as Türkiye and Kazakhstan pursue closer regional ties and expand their industrial partnerships.
