England won the UEFA Women’s European Championship 2025 title with a stunning penalty shootout victory over Spain in Basel. The final ended 1-1 after extra time, with England winning the shootout 3-1. Chloe Kelly converted the decisive penalty, securing back-to-back European titles for the Lionesses.

In the 25th minute, Mariona Caldentey headed home a cross from Ona Batlle following superb buildup by Aitana Bonmatí, giving Spain the lead. In the 57th minute, Alessia Russo equalised with a stunning header off a Chloe Kelly cross.

The match mirrored the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup final, in which Spain defeated England. Spain and England faced off in the men’s Euro 2024 final, with Spain emerging victorious.

In a tightly contested match, both teams had chances, but the score remained tied until extra time. England had previously rallied from behind in the quarterfinals against Sweden and the semifinals against Italy.

The Asturia Quartet performed during the closing ceremony, which also included tributes to the host country, Switzerland. The tournament had a record-breaking attendance of almost 623,000 fans.
