Over 200 Farmers Gain Skills in Climate-Resilient Practices in Dehradun
Dehradun has launched Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) training programmes as part of the IFAD-supported Gramotthan Project (REAP), intending to provide farmers with the skills they need to address the effects of climate change. The sessions were recently held in Dudhli and Jamunwala villages, both part of the Safalta Cluster Level Federation in Doiwala block and the Udaan Cluster Level Federation in Sahaspur block.
The initiative was guided by Abhinav Shah, Dehradun’s Chief Development Officer, and delivered by experts from GBPUA&T University in Pantnagar. Farmers and Self-Help Group members participated in the program, which aimed to teach sustainable techniques that increase resilience, productivity, and long-term food security.
According to officials, the CSA encourages practical strategies to assist farmers in adapting to uncertain weather conditions, efficiently managing resources, and reducing crop and income risks. The initiative also emphasises reducing greenhouse gas emissions by promoting environmentally friendly practices.
Over 200 farmers and SHG members have already received training as part of this program, and the project wants to reach out to over 700 more. Approximately 400 people benefited from similar programs the year before.
