Renewables Dominate Spain’s Grid in July with 55.2% Share Boosted by Solar

In July 2025, Spain's renewable energy share reached 55.2% of national electricity production, up from 54.1% in June, according to data released by the national grid operator Red Eléctrica de España (REE).

In July 2025, Spain’s renewable energy share reached 55.2% of national electricity production, up from 54.1% in June, according to data released by the national grid operator Red Eléctrica de España (REE). The increase was mostly driven by a surge in solar photovoltaic (PV) output, which reached record levels during the month.

Solar PV output grew by 8.1% year-on-year to reach 6,293 GWh in July, accounting for the largest share of the generation mix at 25%. On July 16, it established a new daily record of 241 MWh. Nuclear power remained the second-largest source, contributing 20%, followed by wind energy (17.9%).

Total renewable generation reached 13,872 GWh in July, a 4.1% increase over the same month last year. Technologies that do not emit CO2 accounted for 75.2% of Spain’s electricity mix.

Spain’s national electricity demand also increased by 1.5% after accounting for calendar and temperature variations. In absolute terms, July demand was 23,249 GWh, a 2.1% increase year-on-year. From January to July 2025, gross electricity consumption was 148,267 GWh, a 2.5% increase from the same period last year.
