Union Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy chaired a high-level stakeholder consultation in New Delhi to accelerate the adoption of electric buses and electric trucks across India. The meeting brought together government officials, industry representatives and transport stakeholders to discuss strategies for expanding clean commercial mobility in the country.

The consultation focused on overcoming barriers related to infrastructure, financing, charging networks and large-scale deployment of electric commercial vehicles. Officials emphasised that increasing the use of electric buses and trucks is critical for reducing emissions, lowering fuel dependency and supporting India’s long-term sustainability goals.

The government has been actively promoting electric mobility through policy incentives, manufacturing support and public transport electrification programmes. Industry leaders at the meeting discussed ways to strengthen domestic production capabilities and improve collaboration between manufacturers, transport operators and charging infrastructure providers.

Experts believe electric commercial vehicles will play a major role in India’s green mobility transition, particularly in urban transport and logistics sectors. The push for electrification is also expected to create new opportunities in battery manufacturing, clean energy integration and employment generation within the EV ecosystem.

The discussions chaired by Kumaraswamy are part of broader efforts by the government to expand sustainable transport solutions and support India’s commitment toward cleaner and more energy-efficient mobility systems.
