Oman Named Most Budget-Friendly GCC Country for 2025
According to Numbeo’s most recent Cost of Living Index, Oman has been ranked as the most affordable country in the Gulf Cooperation Council in 2025. The Sultanate provides the region’s most budget-friendly lifestyle while preserving dependable infrastructure and a peaceful environment.
The index shows that monthly family costs in Oman average Dh9,597.6, with single residents spending roughly Dh2,773.2, making it 26.5% cheaper than the UAE and 71.7% less expensive in terms of rent. Bahrain and Kuwait are the next most affordable GCC countries, while the UAE remains the most expensive, with family expenses in Dubai averaging around Dh14,765.
Oman’s affordability is supported by rent control and subsidy laws, making it an appealing option for expats looking for a high-quality lifestyle without breaking the bank. Under Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, the country’s Vision 2040 changes are being implemented, with an emphasis on economic diversification while preserving cultural authenticity.
This ranking may impact migration patterns in the region since professionals and families prefer Muscat over Dubai or Doha. Numbeo’s ranking, which uses crowdsourced global data, focuses on Oman’s balanced approach as the Gulf prepares for a post-oil future while ensuring people have affordable living options.
