Qatar’s Mobile Internet Among World’s Fastest with 517.44 Mbps Download Speeds
Qatar has reaffirmed its global leadership in mobile internet speed, ranking second in the latest Speedtest Global Index released by Ookla. The rating is based on millions of real-time speed tests conducted by users globally. The survey noted Qatar’s remarkable median mobile download speed of 517.44 Mbps, with an upload speed of 32.95 Mbps and a latency of 18 milliseconds.
This outstanding result is due to Qatar’s ongoing expenditures in advanced telecommunications and its early adoption of 5G technology. National telecom operators such as Ooredoo and Vodafone have played important roles in building 5G networks across the country. Ooredoo, in particular, has been at the forefront of 5G rollouts since 2018, considerably improving mobile infrastructure and network capacity.
During the FIFA World Cup 2022, Qatar’s mobile network stood out, with stadiums like Al Janoub achieving median 5G download speeds of 757.77 Mbps. Operators provided free data during the event, ensuring easy access for millions of visitors.
Qatar also reported a fixed broadband median download speed of 206.07 Mbps, which contributes to its overall digital profile.
