PMI Data Signals Resilient Growth in Qatar’s Private Sector
Qatar’s non-energy private sector expanded in September 2025, although growth slowed marginally from the previous month. The S&P Global Qatar Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) fell to 51.5 in September from 51.9 in August, but remained over the 50-mark, indicating expansion. This indicates continued efforts to diversify the economy beyond hydrocarbons.
The third quarter of 2025 was the strongest so far this year, with an average PMI of 51.6, beating both the first and second quarters. September was the fourth month of expansion in the previous six months, demonstrating resilience even as global economic conditions remained uncertain.
Business activity increased moderately, driven by output growth and a steady rise in employment. Companies in the manufacturing, services, and financial industries increased staff to fulfil operational and sales demands. Manufacturing firms experienced the fastest rate of workforce expansion, indicating business confidence.
However, new orders fell for the fourth straight month, somewhat slowing economic momentum. The construction industry also slowed, but other vital sectors contributed to offset the slowdown. Wage inflation remained high, while purchase prices rose the fastest in four months.
So far in 2025, Qatar has received over $2.4 billion in FDI, thereby helping job creation and reinforcing its long-term diversification plans under the National Vision 2030.
