Singapore, Malaysia Express Confidence in Anutin’s Leadership
Malaysian and Singaporean prime ministers congratulated Anutin Charnvirakul on his selection as Thailand’s 32nd Prime Minister.
Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, expressed confidence about enhancing bilateral collaboration, notably in the development of border regions, the expansion of trade opportunities, and the promotion of welfare for both countries’ populations. He highlighted Thailand’s importance in sustaining regional peace within ASEAN, and he noted that Anutin’s leadership will be crucial as Thailand moves forward with its democratic path.
Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong also extended his congratulations, highlighting the deep-rooted friendship shared by the two countries. He emphasised that strong defence and economic cooperation, and people-to-people relationships, have served as the foundation for bilateral relations. PM Wong requested Anutin to visit Singapore soon and expressed his desire to work closely with him.
Anutin was elected prime minister on September 5, following the disqualification of his predecessor, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who faced permanent removal due to ethical misconduct in a border dispute with Cambodia. This year marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Thailand, emphasising the importance of Anutin’s leadership at a time of historic connections and growing regional collaboration.
