Indian travellers to Malaysia will soon find it easier to make payments, as Malaysia plans to enable transactions using India’s Unified Payments Interface. Razorpay’s Malaysian entity, Curlec, recently formed a new agreement with NPCI International Payments Limited, the global arm of the National Payments Corporation of India. The agreement was officially signed during the Global Fintech Fest 2025, which is a significant step towards growing India’s digital payment footprint internationally.

Once the system is operational, tourists from India will be able to pay directly in Malaysian Ringgit using the UPI apps they already use on a regular basis. This eliminates the need for foreign currency exchanges, reduces the reliance on international cards, and provides a faster and safer payment experience. Malaysian merchants, on the other hand, would get quick payments in their local currency using Razorpay Curlec’s platform, making transactions smoother for both sides.

Ritesh Shukla, CEO of NIPL, stated that UPI has transformed digital payments in India and is rapidly becoming a global innovation paradigm.

UPI is already available in various countries, including France, the UAE, Bhutan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Nepal, and Qatar. More partnerships are expected in Namibia, Trinidad & Tobago, Peru, Japan, Europe, and the United States.
