PM Modi Showcases India’s Maritime Reforms at CEO Forum in Mumbai

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai, where he spoke at the Maritime Leaders’ Conclave and presided over the Global Maritime CEO Forum. Mr Modi emphasised the importance of global cooperation, saying the event gives an excellent opportunity to develop collaborations and highlight India’s marine reforms and technological advancement.

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal stated that India’s marine sector has nearly doubled its port capacity in just 11 years under Mr Modi’s leadership. He emphasised India’s developing global leadership in maritime development and logistics infrastructure.

The second day of India Maritime Week 2025 featured in-depth conversations about ports as transformation engines, maritime security, and the revival of inland waterways. Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh were spotlighted states, while Sweden and Norway were designated as Focus Countries for International Collaboration.

The Directorate General of Shipping has opened an exhibition stall exhibiting projects in maritime education, seafarer welfare and innovation. The Paradip Port Authority has inked six important MoUs totalling ₹1.06 lakh crore to improve port infrastructure and boost green hydrogen projects. Meanwhile, the VOC Port in Tamil Nadu is being built as a future-ready green port, taking advantage of its strategic position and potential for wind energy generation.
