The Indian women’s cricket team has qualified for the LA 2028 Olympic Games, securing a place through the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 after emerging as the highest-ranked Asian team in the tournament.

India’s qualification was confirmed after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved the qualification system for cricket at the Los Angeles Olympics, where the sport will make its long-awaited return after 128 years.

Under the approved qualification format, the best-performing eligible team from Asia, Africa, Europe, and Oceania at the Women’s T20 World Cup earned a direct berth for LA 2028. India secured Asia’s quota by finishing ahead of all other Asian nations in the tournament.

With the qualification, India joined Australia, England, and South Africa to participate in the Olympic Games.

Cricket will return to the Olympics for the first time since Paris 1900, with six teams participating in men’s and women’s categories in T20 tournaments scheduled to be held from July 12 to 29, 2028, in Pomona, Los Angeles.

The qualification marks another significant milestone for Indian women’s cricket as Harmanpreet Kaur’s side prepares to represent the country on one of the world’s biggest sporting stages, marking a historic comeback at the Olympics.
