Kaamya Karthikeyan, 18, made history by becoming the youngest Indian to ski to the South Pole, adding to her already impressive list of global adventure milestones. She reached the geographic South Pole on December 27, 2025, after travelling approximately 115 miles across Antarctica on skis through one of the harshest terrains on Earth. Temperatures dipped to minus 30 degrees Celsius, visibility was reduced due to frequent whiteouts, and severe winds battered her route. Kaamya completed the journey entirely on foot, dragging a sledge filled with critical supplies, showing exceptional stamina, discipline, and mental strength.

Kaamya was born to Indian Navy officer Commander S Karthikeyan and educator Lavanya Karthikeyan. She grew up in an environment that valued resilience and outdoor activities. An alumna of Navy Children School, and has constantly exhibited determination beyond her years. The Indian Navy honoured her accomplishment, calling it a monument to courage and perseverance.

Kaamya’s victory at the South Pole adds to her previous climbing achievements, including completing the Seven Summits Challenge at the age of 17. The journey brings her closer to achieving the famous Explorer’s Grand Slam, with just the North Pole remaining on her path.
