F1 Reports 26% Emission Drop, Stays on Course for 2030 Net Zero Goal
Formula One remains on track to reach its target of being Net Zero by 2030, with the sport reporting a 26% reduction in carbon emissions by the end of 2024 compared to the 2018 baseline. Collaboration with Formula One teams, partners, promoters, and the FIA has helped to accelerate advancement.
The race calendar has grown from 21 events in 2018 to 24 in each of the last two seasons. Race attendance has increased from 4 million to 6.5 million, and the sport’s global fanbase has surpassed 826 million. Data reveal that without operational adjustments, emissions might have increased by 10% over 2018. Formula One is already more than halfway to meeting its minimum 50% emissions reduction objective under the Net Zero commitment.
The remaining unavoidable emissions will be mitigated through credible schemes that follow best practices. By the end of 2024, the sport’s carbon footprint will be 168,720 tCO2e, down from 228,793 tCO2e in 2018. Formula One has re-baselined its 2018 footprint under industry norms to ensure accurate progress reporting.
Stefano Domenicali emphasised the sport’s commitment to sustainable development while promoting global expansion.
