India’s Divyanshi Claims U-15 Girls’ Title After 36 Years at Asian Youth TT Event

Divyanshi Bhowmick created history by winning gold at the Asian Youth Table Tennis Championships 2025 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. She was the first Indian in 36 years to win the U-15 girls’ singles gold in the event. Subramanian Bhuvaneswari became the last Indian to accomplish this feat in 1989 in New Delhi. Divyanshi, a fourteen-year-old seeded second, upset China’s Zhu Qihi 4-2 in an exciting final.
The game’s scores were 13-11, 11-8, 8-11, 12-10, 9-11, and 11-8. She overcame early problems with poise and excellent backhand performance, securing victory.
Her gold medal performance also earned her a spot at the World Youth Table Tennis Championships in Romania this November. Divyanshi also impressed in the semi-finals, defeating China’s Liu Ziling in a tough seven-game match. She has received recognition on India’s junior circuit, having been awarded Best Women’s Player in the TTSL Maharashtra in April.
India ended its campaign in Tashkent with four medals: one gold, one silver, and two bronze. The U-15 boys’ team earned silver after defeating South Korea in the semi-finals, but they lost to China in the final.
