Spain defeated Germany 1-0 in the Women’s Euro 2025 semifinals in Zurich, setting up a final clash with England. The match was heading for penalties until Aitana Bonmati scored in the 113th minute, beating German goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger at her near post.

Despite a quiet game, the Barcelona midfielder delivered at a crucial moment to keep Spain’s hopes of winning their first European Championship alive. Cata Coll, Germany’s goalkeeper, made crucial saves, including a double stop to deny Klara Buhl and Carlotta Wamser in stoppage time, assuring Germany’s close escape.

Spain had never beaten Germany before and will now face England in Basel, hoping to win both the World and European crowns, a feat last accomplished by Germany 15 years ago.

Spain had an additional day of rest after overcoming Switzerland, whereas Germany faced France with 10 players for most of their quarterfinal. Germany missed three starters due to bans and injuries, but dominated the audience at Letzigrund Stadium. Berger saved Esther Gonzalez’s early shots, and Irene Paredes hit the post before halftime.

Germany pushed in the second half, with Buhl getting close and Coll stopping crucial shots. Bonmati’s late goal secured Spain’s first-ever Euro final spot, maintaining their momentum in international women’s football.
