Dubai Reaches 1,270 EV Charging Points, Reinforces Green Transport Goals

Dubai continues to strengthen its position as a regional leader in green mobility, with the number of electric vehicle (EV) charging points now exceeding 1,270 across the emirate. This achievement was announced by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). These charging stations have been deployed through collaborations with both public and private sector partners.

Al Tayer emphasised DEWA’s commitment to improving sustainable transportation, which is consistent with Dubai’s long-term aim of having electric and hybrid vehicles account for 50% of all vehicles in the UAE by 2050. The establishment of the EV Green Charger initiative in 2014 was the region’s first move towards public EV charging infrastructure. DEWA has now continued to develop by incorporating digital services and allowing private sector engagement via a licensing framework for independent charge point operators.

Dubai’s EV fleet surpassed 40,600 vehicles by mid-2025. To meet this demand, DEWA is expanding its network with ultra-fast, fast, and wall-box chargers. A partnership with Parkin intends to put more chargers in high-traffic areas. DEWA’s smart platforms enable all users, including guests, to use charging services and locate nearby stations.
