India and Bhutan Strengthen Spiritual and Bilateral Ties Through Buddha Relics
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to the Bhutanese people and leadership for their warm and respectful reception of Lord Buddha’s sacred relics from India. He stated that Lord Buddha’s teachings continue to serve as a spiritual bridge between India and Bhutan, fostering peace and compassion.
A portion of the holy relics, known as the Piprahwa Relics, was placed in the Grand Kuenrey Hall of Thimphu’s Tashichhodzong Monastery amid prayers, rituals, and a guard of honour. Bhutan’s Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, senior ministries, and spiritual leaders attended the ceremony, as did India’s Social Justice Minister, Virendra Kumar. The relics will be available for public veneration from November 8 to 18, representing a significant cultural and spiritual connection.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bhutan from November 11 to 12. During his visit, he will meet King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, inaugurate the 1020 MW Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project, and participate in events celebrating the 70th birth anniversary of the Fourth King, Jigme Singye Wangchuck. The visit exemplifies the longstanding affection and mutual respect that characterise the India-Bhutan partnership, which is deeply rooted in shared values and history.
