Indian women’s blind football team finishes as runners-up in the Asian championship
India’s women’s blind football team delivered a commendable performance to secure the silver medal at the IBSA Women’s Blind Football Asian Championship held in Osaka, Japan. Competing in only the second edition of the tournament, the Indian side demonstrated resilience and growth in the emerging para-sport discipline.
In the final, India faced a strong Japanese team and went down 0–2, with Japan’s Noa Nishiyama scoring both goals. Despite the loss, India’s journey to the final reflected significant progress. The team had earlier suffered a 1–5 defeat to Japan in the group stage but bounced back with a goalless draw against Australia to secure a place in the final based on goal difference.
The tournament featured three teams—Japan, India, and Australia—highlighting the growing participation in women’s blind football across Asia. India’s performance marks an important milestone for para-sports in the country and showcases the rising competitiveness of Indian athletes on the international stage.
With this achievement, the Indian team has reinforced its position as a strong contender in future editions, while also bringing attention to the need for greater support and infrastructure for para-athletes.
