India has reportedly finalised a deal to supply the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system to Vietnam, marking another significant step in the country’s efforts to expand defence exports and strategic partnerships in Southeast Asia. Reports indicate that India is also exploring similar opportunities with Indonesia as part of its broader regional engagement strategy.

The BrahMos missile, developed through a joint venture between India and Russia, is regarded as one of the world’s fastest operational supersonic cruise missiles. The system has attracted international interest due to its precision, speed and versatility across land, sea and air platforms.

The agreement with Vietnam is expected to strengthen defence cooperation between the two countries while contributing to maritime security and regional stability. Strategic analysts view the deal as part of India’s growing role as a defence exporter and security partner in the Indo-Pacific region.

India has been actively promoting indigenous defence manufacturing under its self-reliance initiatives and has set ambitious targets for defence exports.
