Women’s workforce participation in India jumps significantly over 7 years, says Mandaviya
Union Minister Shri Mansukh Mandaviya has stated that female workforce participation in India has increased significantly from 23.3 percent to 40 percent over the past seven years. The rise reflects a combination of policy interventions, economic opportunities, and social shifts contributing to greater inclusion of women in the workforce.
The minister highlighted that government initiatives aimed at skill development, entrepreneurship, and financial inclusion have played a key role in enabling more women to seek employment and start businesses. Improved access to education and digital platforms has further expanded opportunities, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas.
Mandaviya also noted that sectors such as manufacturing, services, and self-employment have seen increased participation from women. Efforts to promote workplace safety, maternity benefits, and flexible working conditions have contributed to a more supportive environment.
The rise in female workforce participation is seen as a positive indicator for India’s economic growth and social development. Greater inclusion of women in the labor force not only enhances productivity but also promotes gender equality and empowerment, strengthening the country’s overall development trajectory.
