PM Modi highlights Union Budget’s roadmap for strengthening Make in India, Aatmanirbhar Bharat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the Union Budget 2026-27 presents an ambitious roadmap to accelerate the Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, giving fresh momentum to India’s reform journey.
In a video message, Mr Modi said the budget would inject new energy into the “reform express” and transform current aspirations into tangible outcomes. He described the budget as a unique one, focused on reducing the fiscal deficit and controlling inflation, while simultaneously maintaining high capital expenditure to sustain economic growth.
The Prime Minister highlighted unprecedented support for sunrise sectors, including the BioPharma Shakti Mission, Semiconductor Mission 2.0, the Electronic Component Manufacturing Scheme, the creation of a Rare Earth Corridor, and the strengthening of the critical minerals sector. He also noted the announcement of new schemes for the textile sector, promotion of high-tech tool manufacturing, and the development of “champion MSMEs”, addressing both present and future national needs.
Calling the budget historic, Mr Modi said it reflects the empowered spirit of India’s women and offers a “highway of immense opportunities”. He added that it lays the foundation for India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Mr Modi also said the plan to build new hostels for girl students in every district would improve access to education. He reiterated that agriculture, dairy, and fisheries remain top priorities, with special measures announced for farmers producing coconut, cashew, cocoa, and sandalwood.
