Double Podium for India at ISSF World Championships in Cairo
India began its 2025 ISSF World Championship campaign in Cairo with two medals on the first day, signalling a strong start to the new shooting season. Ravinder Singh won gold in the men’s 50m pistol, and Elavenil Valarivan took bronze in the women’s 10m air rifle event.
Ravinder maintained amazing control throughout qualification, leading with 569-12x. In the final, his consistent series — 93, 98, 94, 95, 93, 96 — exhibited his calm precision and put him comfortably ahead of Korea’s Cheongyong Kim and AIN’s Anton Aristarkhov. His victory represented one of India’s most promising starts in this category in recent years.
Meanwhile, Elavenil exhibited her usual steadiness. She qualified fifth with 634.3 and maintained her rhythm in the final, finishing third with 232.0 points, trailing Korea’s Ban Hyojin and China’s Wang Zifei.
Elavenil, Meghana Sajjanar, and Shreya Agrawal earned a team bronze medal with steady scores in the women’s air rifle event. Arjun Babuta reached the final of the men’s 10m air rifle, finishing seventh and leading India to fourth place overall.
Other shooters, like Priyanka Patel and Anish, achieved excellent results, keeping India’s medal chances alive for the upcoming stages.
