Denmark Strengthens Air Security with Support from France, Sweden, and Germany
France, Sweden, and Germany have increased their efforts to secure Denmark’s informal European Union summit in Copenhagen this week, following unexplained drone activity over Danish territory. Following President Emmanuel Macron’s command, France dispatched a 35-member anti-drone military unit armed with a Fennec light helicopter and active defence capabilities. The French Armed Forces Ministry confirmed that the unit is already active and coordinating with Danish authorities.
Sweden also replied to Denmark’s request by sending an anti-drone team and radar devices to increase surveillance coverage. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson stated that the major goal is to defend Copenhagen from any hostile or unauthorised drone flights, emphasising that while there is no direct evidence of Russian involvement, the risks cannot be ignored.
Germany increased security measures by delivering anti-drone equipment and dispatching the air-defence frigate Hamburg to Copenhagen as part of NATO’s Baltic Sentry operation. The Danish Ministry of Defence emphasised the importance of cooperation among European countries in combating aerial threats.
Drone sightings have been reported at Danish airports and military bases in recent days. With 44 European prime ministers expected to attend, Denmark has taken the issue seriously, especially given its current lack of ground-based missile defence.
