Mauritius Receives First Batch of Indian E-Buses Under Strategic Mobility Pact
India has delivered the first batch of 10 electric buses to Mauritius, strengthening the nations’ bilateral cooperation on sustainable mobility. The handover event was held at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Public Service and Innovation in Reduit and was attended by Mauritius PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Indian High Commissioner Anurag Srivastava, and senior government dignitaries.
The project is part of the Enhanced Strategic Partnership that PM Modi agreed upon during his official visit to Mauritius in March 2025. Speaking at the ceremony, PM Ramgoolam called the e-bus program a “paradigm shift in public transport” and a testament to the two nations’ long-standing friendship. He emphasised its potential to lower emissions, reduce fuel imports, and create employment in the e-mobility sector.
High Commissioner Srivastava described the buses as “moving symbols” of the India-Mauritius partnership and reaffirmed New Delhi’s support for Mauritius’ green transition. India’s assistance also includes an 8-MW solar PV farm in Henrietta, 100 solar-powered street lights, and a community solar project in Rodrigues.
PM Modi’s March visit included the joint inauguration of the institute in Reduit, which reaffirmed India’s role in developing key infrastructure in Mauritius, including the Metro Express Project, Supreme Court Building, ENT Hospital, social housing and education projects.
