Historic Moment for India as Para-Badminton Team Clinches 27 Medals in Bangkok
India delivered its best-ever result at the 2024 Asian Para-Badminton Championships in Bangkok, Thailand, winning 27 medals. This exceptional achievement featured four gold, ten silver, and thirteen bronze medals. The country beat their previous highest medal tally of 13 from the 2016 event.
Indian competitors excelled in a variety of categories at the event. Sukant Kadam and Nitesh Kumar defeated fellow Indians Jagadesh Dilli and Naveen Sivakumar in a hard-fought three-game men’s doubles final that ended 21-17, 11-21, 21-11.
Nitesh Kumar also won the gold medal in the SL3 men’s singles event. He demonstrated his versatility by capturing another gold medal in the SL3-SL5 mixed doubles category, this time alongside Tulshimathi Murgesan. Manisha Ramadas won the SU5 women’s singles final, giving the Indian contingent their fourth gold medal.
The Indian Para-Badminton team’s performance in Bangkok demonstrates the country’s growing dominance in the sport. Chief National Coach Gaurav Khanna lauded the team’s performance and emphasised the value of consistency and international exposure.
