India and the U.K. Advance Defence Cooperation Roadmap
India and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defence ties following a series of discussions aimed at enhancing military cooperation and expanding engagement between their armed forces.
The 15th India–United Kingdom Executive Steering Group (ESG) meeting was held in the U.K. from June 17 to 19, bringing together defence officials to review ongoing collaboration and identify new partnership opportunities.
According to the Indian Army, the engagement included visits to the U.K. Trials & Experimental Group, the Ministry of Defence in London and defence technology company MBDA in Stevenage.
Discussions focused on advancing multi-layered military cooperation through enhanced interoperability, bilateral joint exercises, training initiatives, and subject- matter expert exchanges on emerging military technologies. The two sides also explored new avenues for training collaboration and defence think tanks to improve engagement.
In a statement, the Indian Army described the deliberations as “constructive and forward-looking”, noting that they had charted a robust roadmap for strengthening defence cooperation and an enduring partnership between the Indian Army and the British Army.
The meeting comes amid growing momentum in India-U.K. relations across strategic and economic sectors. Earlier this month, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said the two countries were well-positioned to build a future-oriented, mutually beneficial partnership, supported by their recently concluded trade agreement and defence industrial roadmap.
Defence cooperation emerges as a key pillar of the broader India-U.K. strategic relationship, with both countries continuing to expand collaboration in training, technology, capability development and regional security.
