India prepares for crucial Gaganyaan G-1 test mission ahead of human spaceflight

India’s ambitious human spaceflight programme received a major boost after the Indian Space Research Organisation announced that the Gaganyaan G-1 mission is expected to launch within the next three to four months. The mission is considered a crucial milestone before India undertakes its maiden crewed space mission under the Gaganyaan programme.

The G-1 mission will be an uncrewed test flight designed to validate critical systems required for carrying Indian astronauts safely into space and back. According to officials, the mission will test the crew module, service module, re-entry systems, and other onboard technologies essential for future human missions. The launch is expected to take place using the human-rated LVM3 rocket developed by ISRO.

The Gaganyaan programme aims to make India one of the few countries capable of independently sending humans into space. Several preparatory tests, including abort missions and crew module recovery exercises, have already been completed successfully over the past few years. ISRO has also been working closely with Indian Air Force personnel selected for astronaut training.

The upcoming G-1 mission is expected to pave the way for India’s first crewed mission, which remains one of the country’s most significant scientific and technological projects.
