Delhi Gets India’s First ‘Ring Metro’ As PM Modi Unveils New Metro Corridors
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated two new corridors of the Delhi Metro, including the country’s first fully operational ‘Ring Metro’, significantly expanding connectivity across the national capital.
The 12.3-km Majlis Park–Maujpur-Babarpur stretch forms part of the Pink Line and includes eight elevated stations. With the addition of this corridor, the Pink Line now spans about 71.56 km, completing India’s first circular metro corridor, which allows trains to run around the city in a loop. The stations on the route include Majlis Park, Burari, Jharoda Majra, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Soorghat, Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar, and Maujpur-Babarpur. The corridor also features a new bridge across the Yamuna and a unique double-decker viaduct that carries both a metro line and a road flyover.
The Prime Minister also launched the 9.9-km Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park corridor, an elevated extension of the Botanical Garden–Krishna Park Extension Magenta Line. The route includes seven stations, such as Deepali Chowk, Madhuban Chowk, and Haiderpur Village. Parts of the corridor rise to about 28.36 metres, making it one of the highest elevated sections in the network.
Modi also laid the foundation stone for three new corridors under Phase-V(A), aimed at strengthening connectivity to central Delhi, south Delhi, and the airport.
