Mizoram formally thanked the NITI Aayog for declaring the state the ‘Ginger Capital of India’. The acknowledgement occurred during a review meeting conducted by Chief Minister Lalduhoma in the CM’s Conference Hall.

The recognition came after a stakeholder consultation in New Delhi on November 24, which was co-hosted by Mizoram and NITI Aayog. Officials from several central ministries attended the event, as did more than 60 ginger buyers, processors, and investors. It was the largest official consultation on Mizoram held in the national capital. The NITI Aayog release highlighted Mizoram’s increasing production and expanding demand for chemical-free ginger.

MAMB reported that around 3,38,35,182 kilogrammes of ginger were purchased this year at support prices of Rs 1,37,72,04,477.50. The Board asked villages intending to practice organic agriculture for next year to register with them for direct procurement from farmers. A nationwide Ginger Buyer-Seller Meet will be place in Aizawl on December 5-6 to secure fresh trade agreements.

Infrastructure developments at Sairang Horticulture Centre are approaching completion, and the new Ginger Processing Unit will open on January 12, 2026. Other crops, such as broomsticks, turmeric, Mizo Hmarcha, and paddy, will have their procurement schedules established for next year.
