Leaders of the United Nations, African Union, and European Union held their sixth trilateral meeting in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, pledging to intensify joint efforts for peace, stability, and development across Africa. In a joint communiqué, they reaffirmed multilateralism as the most effective way to handle global challenges while also expressing serious concern over growing violations of international law and human rights.

A large part of the discussion focused on the current African crises. The leaders urged an immediate cessation of hostilities in Sudan and an inclusive political dialogue to secure a lasting solution. They vowed more coordination in the Sahel region to combat armed group violence and reaffirmed their support for reconciliation and development efforts. Concerning Libya, they supported the UN roadmap to revive the stalled political process and emphasised a humanitarian approach to migration challenges.

Looking ahead, the three organisations pledged to advance Africa’s Agenda 2063 and the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Addressing the Global Africa Business Initiative, UN Secretary-General António Guterres highlighted Africa as a hub of opportunity and urged investments in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and digital infrastructure, calling Africa’s development “unstoppable.”
