India made a historic breakthrough at the World Archery Championships 2025, winning its first gold medal in the men’s compound team event. Rishabh Yadav, Aman Saini, and Prathamesh Fuge led a spectacular comeback to defeat France 235-233 in a tense final.

France, led by Nicolas Girrard, Jean Philippe Boulch, and Francois Dubois, started strong, leaving India trailing 57-59 after the opening end. However, India responded with six consecutive 10s in the second round to tie the score. After the third end, both teams were tied at 176-all, but the Indian team held its composure in the final stages. Fuge, who had started with two 9s, redeemed himself with six flawless 10s, securing the historic victory.

Jiwanjot Singh Teja, the chief coach, credited the tactical change of shooting order as the turning point. The team had survived a scare against Australia in the round of 16 before eliminating heavyweights USA and Turkey en route to the final.

Yadav, India’s top qualifier, also won a silver medal in the mixed team event, partnering veteran Jyothi Surekha Vennam. They lost 155-157 to Dutch world champions Mike Schloesser and Sanne de Laat.

The women’s compound team, however, exited in the pre-quarterfinals, ending an eight-year podium streak.
