Jaishankar, Wadephul discuss EU ties, scientific collaboration and counter- terrorism efforts

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and German Foreign Minister Johann David Wadephul held detailed discussions in New Delhi, with a focus on increasing India-Germany collaboration and improving ties with the European Union.

Jaishankar and German Foreign Minister Johann David Wadephul held detailed discussions in New Delhi, with a focus on increasing India-Germany collaboration and improving ties with the European Union. The ministers discussed political cooperation, defence and security concerns, climate change, emerging technologies, and cultural exchanges. They also emphasised the importance of people-to-people contact in strengthening bilateral relations.

Dr. Jaishankar emphasised that Germany’s consistent assistance for India’s fight against terrorism is greatly appreciated. He pointed out that Mr. Wadephul has openly supported India’s right to defend itself against terror threats. On the economic front, he stated that bilateral trade totalled approximately 50 billion euros last year and has the potential to increase in the future years. He assured that India remains committed to easing business processes and addressing German investors’ concerns.

The talks also explored cooperation in green hydrogen, renewable energy, and biofuels, along with expanding scientific collaboration that has already spanned five decades. Dr. Jaishankar emphasised the significance of increasing space collaboration and better connecting research with industry.

Mr. Wadephul praised India as a centre of innovation and an important global democracy.
