India, New Zealand Edge Closer to Landmark Free Trade Agreement
India and New Zealand are on the verge of signing a long-awaited Free Trade Agreement (FTA), marking what Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal described as a “new chapter” in bilateral economic relations. The agreement is expected to significantly enhance trade flows, improve market access, and strengthen investment opportunities between the two nations.
Negotiations for the FTA have progressed steadily, with both countries working to resolve key issues related to tariffs, services, and regulatory standards. The deal is likely to benefit sectors such as agriculture, dairy, education, and technology, while also opening up new avenues for Indian exporters in the Pacific region.
India has been actively pursuing trade agreements with strategic partners as part of its broader goal to integrate more deeply into global supply chains. The proposed pact with New Zealand aligns with this strategy and reflects growing economic complementarities between the two economies.
Officials from both sides have expressed optimism about agreeing soon, noting that it could serve as a model for future trade partnerships. Once signed, the FTA is expected to boost bilateral trade volumes and strengthen diplomatic ties.
