Indian Exporters to Gain Relief as ₹20,000 Crore Trade Boost Scheme Nears Launch

India plans to launch a ₹20,000 crore Export Promotion Mission to protect its exporters from the impact of global trade disruptions, particularly US tariffs.

India plans to launch a ₹20,000 crore Export Promotion Mission to protect its exporters from the impact of global trade disruptions, particularly US tariffs. The plan, which is set to launch in September, will be a collaborative effort by the commerce, MSME, and finance ministries. According to senior government officials, the mission will prioritise strengthening export credit availability, eliminating non-tariff trade barriers, and increasing India’s brand exposure in overseas markets.

The move is in response to the United States’ recent imposition of a 25% tariff on goods of Indian origin, which went into effect on August 7. According to officials, the program will require funding of over ₹20,000 crore over the next 5-6 years. The plan has five important components: trade financing, regulatory and standards-based market access, brand India promotion, ecommerce infrastructure (including warehousing), and overall trade facilitation.

The Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) estimates that India’s exports to the US could drop nearly 30%, from $86.5 billion in FY25 to around $60.6 billion in FY26. Sectors like garments, food, marine, and textiles are severely affected. Exporters are demanding financial aid, interest subsidies, and prompt dues under schemes like RoDTEP and RoSCTL.
