Prime Minister Narendra Modi has outlined India’s vision behind hosting the AI Impact Summit 2026, the first global AI summit in the Global South. He said the summit is guided by the motto “Sarvajan Hitay, Sarvajan Sukhaye”, reflecting India’s civilisational belief that technology must serve humanity and ensure welfare and happiness for all. The summit focuses on People, Planet, and Progress, aiming to make AI inclusive, ethical, and development-oriented.

Modi linked AI directly to India’s goal of Viksit Bharat 2047, highlighting its role in healthcare, education, agriculture, and women’s empowerment. From AI-based disease detection to personalised learning in Indian languages and digital tools for farmers, AI is already bridging urban-rural divides and expanding access to opportunity.

He acknowledged risks such as bias, misuse, and job disruption, stressing the need for diverse datasets, strong governance,e and global cooperation. India is addressing safety through regulatory frameworks, watermarking of AI content, and the IndiaAI Safety Institute.

Modi emphasised that India’s Digital Public Infrastructure, like Aadhaar and UP, offers a scalable model for the Global South, where AI layered on open public systems can improve service delivery, transparency, and inclusion. Ultimately, India aims to be a creator of AI, not just a consumer, ensuring sovereign, human-centric, and responsible AI for global good.
