PM Modi Launches Jewar Airport, Marking Major Aviation Milestone
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 28, 2026, inaugurated Phase I of the Noida International Airport, marking a major milestone in India’s aviation infrastructure. Located in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, the airport becomes the second international airport serving the Delhi-NCR region, aimed at easing congestion at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Developed at an estimated cost of around ₹11,200 crore under a public-private partnership model, the greenfield airport is designed as a future-ready and sustainable facility. In its first phase, it will handle about 12 million passengers annually, with plans to scale up capacity to nearly 70 million in subsequent phases. The airport also includes a dedicated cargo hub and Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility, strengthening logistics and boosting trade potential. With multi-modal connectivity through road, rail, and expressways, it is expected to significantly improve accessibility across northern India.
Officials highlighted that the project will generate employment, boost regional economic growth, and position India as a global aviation hub. The inauguration is seen as a key step in the government’s broader infrastructure push under its “Viksit Bharat” vision.
