India Hits 50-Medal Milestone After Elavenil-Arjun Gold

India crossed the 50-medal mark at the Asian Rifle/Pistol Championship in New Delhi as Olympians Elavenil Valarivan and Arjun Babuta clinched gold in the 10m Air Rifle mixed team event, extending the hosts’ dominant run at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range.

Elavenil and Arjun combined for a total score of 505.0 to finish four points ahead of South Korea’s Kwon Eunji and Kim Woorim, who took silver with 501.0, while Japan’s Misaki Nobata and Naoya Okada won bronze. Elavenil also continued her impressive form in the individual event, shooting 253.4, while Arjun finished with 251.6.

India also swept the mixed team golds in the junior and youth categories. Himanshu Dhillon and Shambhavi Kshirsagar secured junior gold with 502.4, well ahead of Kazakhstan, while Hrudya Shri Kondur and Anshul Batra won the youth title with 498.4.

In the 25m Standard Pistol event, Rio 2016 Olympian Gurpreet Singh led a clean sweep for India, winning gold ahead of Harsh Gupta and Amanpreet Singh. The juniors repeated the podium sweep, with Suraj Sharma taking gold.

At the end of Day 5, India topped the medal tally with 54 medals, 34 gold, 12 silver, and eight bronze, far ahead of Uzbekistan and Indonesia.
