Golden and Historic: Babuta, Elavenil Rewrite Records at Asian Championship
In shooting, India’s Arjun Babuta and Elavenil Valarivan created history by setting both a world record and a Championship record while clinching gold in the 10m air rifle mixed team event at the Asian Rifle/Pistol Championship 2026 in New Delhi on ThursdayThe Indian duo delivered a stellar performance in the final, combining for a total score of 505 points to successfully defend their Asian title. Their dominant showing saw them finish ahead of the Republic of Korea’s Kim Woorim and Kwon Eunji, who secured silver with 501 points. Japan’s Naoya Okada and Misaki Nobata claimed the bronze medal with a score of 437.9 points.
With this effort, Babuta and Elavenil surpassed the previous world and Championship record of 502.7 points, which had been set by the German pair of Hanna Buehlmeyer and Maximilian Ulbrich at the ISSF Grand Prix in Slovenia last month.
The record-breaking feat underlines India’s growing stature in international shooting and highlights the country’s strong depth in the rifle discipline.
